West Buechel, Kentucky, is at a crossroads of numerous roads – located at Hwy 150/Bardstown Road, Hikes Lane, Champions Trace Lane, and Shepherdsville Road. West Buechel was named after John Buechel, a Swiss carpenter. who owned White Cottage Tavern, where he also had a post office, in the late 19th century. West Buechel is currently a central location for shopping and going out to eat. About 1500 people live in this little city; most homes were mainly built between the 1950’s and 1970’s. Living here makes an easy commute to several universities, including University of Louisville (about a mile away), Sullivan University and Bellarmine University.
