Early German Catholic settlers established Germantown in 1894. The area is bound by Broadway; Barret Avenue and Beargrass Creek; Goss Avenue; and the CSX railroad tracks. (Schnitzelburg, west of Goss, has many of the same characteristics, and is often lumped together with Germantown.)With its affordable housing costs and a strong sense of community, Germantown is a popular spot for singles, retirees, and small families. Today, the area boats the largest number of shotgun houses in Greater Louisville.
