Butchertown In the 1830s, Butchertown was settled by German immigrants and used as the city's meatpacking area. Its streets had such colorful nicknames as Pork House Alley and Butcher Baron Road. Through intensive preservation efforts, the neighborhood's historic homes - some of them dating to the Federal era - and commercial structures, its brick streets and sidewalks, are still here. Just east of the downtown business district, Butchertown is home to a mix of longtime family residents and young professionals. The neighborhood is bounded by the Ohio River, Beargrass Creek, Main Street, and Melwood Avenue.
