Anchorage
Formerly a summer retreat for wealthy city dwellers, Anchorage is now the full-time residence for nearly 2,500 people, but it retains a bucolic charm. Designed as a historic district by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Anchorage is dominated by Victorian homes on large lots. It has its own independent school district (kindergarten through eight grade), which typically ranks at the top of state assessments.
